Cr doping-induced ferromagnetism in the spin-glass Cd1?Mn Te studied by x-ray magnetic circular dichroism

چکیده
The prototypical diluted magnetic semiconductor Cd1-xMnxTe is a spin glass (x<0.6) or an antiferromagnet (x>0.6), but becomes ferromagnetic upon doping with small amount of Cr atoms substituting for Mn. In order to investigate the origin ferromagnetism in Cd1-x-yMnxCryTe, we have studied its element specific properties by x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and circular dichroism (XMCD) at Mn L2,3 edges. Thin films were grown molecular beam epitaxy fixed content x = 0.2 varying range y 0 - 0.04. Measured XAS XMCD spectra indicate that both are divalent superparamagnetic components aligned same directions. magnetization increases increasing content. These results can be explained if interaction exists between neighboring ions although largely antiferromagnetic. We conclude each cluster consists ferromagnetically coupled several much larger number ions.

Spin state transition in LaCoO3 studied using soft x-ray absorption spectroscopy and magnetic circular dichroism.
Using soft x-ray absorption spectroscopy and magnetic circular dichroism at the Co-L(2,3) edge, we reveal that the spin state transition in LaCoO3 can be well described by a low-spin ground state and a triply degenerate high-spin first excited state. From the temperature dependence of the spectral line shapes, we find that LaCoO3 at finite temperatures is an inhomogeneous mixed-spin state syste...
متن کاملMagnetic properties of Co/Rh „001... multilayers studied by x-ray magnetic-circular dichroism
The layer-averaged magnetic moments of Co and Rh have been measured in sputter deposited Co/Rh ~001! multilayer thin films using the x-ray magnetic circular dichroism. The Rh moments were measured at both the L and M absorption edges, where we find that the Rh moment decreases as a function of increasing Rh layer thickness (tRh). The decline of the layer-averaged Rh moment is well described in ...

متن کاملRoom-temperature ferromagnetism of Cu-doped ZnO films probed by soft X-ray magnetic circular dichroism.
We report direct evidence of room-temperature ferromagnetic ordering in O-deficient ZnO:Cu films by using soft x-ray magnetic circular dichroism and x-ray absorption. Our measurements have revealed unambiguously two distinct features of Cu atoms associated with (i) magnetically ordered Cu ions present only in the oxygen-deficient samples and (ii) magnetically disordered regular Cu2+ ions presen...
متن کاملPorphyrin protonation studied by magnetic circular dichroism.
Magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectroscopy provides valuable information about electronic excited states in molecules. The interpretation of spectra is however difficult, often requiring additional theoretical calculations to rationalize the observed signal. Recent developments in time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) bring hope that the applicability of MCD spectroscopy for chem...
